A Basic Idea

Create-A-Cryptid Wiki was made to come up with your own cryptids, or to come up with sightings of previously known cryptids. The cryptozoological guidelines are as follows:

  • Distribution anomalies, creatures outside of where they normally live (Real cryptid example:Beast of Bodmin)
  • Undescribed, unusual, or outsized variations of known species (Real cryptid example: Giant gecko)
  • Survivals of recently extinct species (Real cryptid example: Thylacine)
  • Survivals of species known only from the fossil record into modern times (Real cryptid example: Mokele-mbembe)
  • Animals not known from the fossil record but related to known species (Real cryptid example: Bigfoot)
  • Animals not known from the fossil record nor related to any known species (Real cryptid example: Crawfordsville monster)

Taken from Cryptid Tidbits Wiki.

However you must not include extraterrestrial or supernatural/paranormal articles. Bernard Huevelmans even said that "[cryptozoology] is not an arcane or occult zoology". This means that anything pertaining to zombies, vampires, witches, ghosts, extraterrestrials, etc. is not included.

Feel free to make your cryptids as crazy as you want them to be, just make sure they follow our wiki's rules! If you wish, you can make cryptid related media as well. Enjoy your time on Create-A-Cryptid Wiki!
